About

Walter Payton Health & Recreation Center is located on the Jackson State University campus. The facility is a redesigned building that offers fitness programs for students, community members, and seniors. The center features clean facilities, a variety of machines, and a large amount of cardio equipment, though some equipment is described as rusty, outdated, or hardly working. Group classes are offered, although they were not offered during 2021-2022. The swimming pool is undergoing reconstruction. The facility's hours have expanded but remain limited and are subject to change during student breaks, and the gym closes when the JSU campus is closed. The staff and patrons provide a welcoming, judge-free environment with professional security. The center also serves as a location for parties and get-togethers.
